Unit Two - Online Testing and Assessment


       This was actually a fun unit, I enjoyed reviewing the various applications from which we had to choose from.  I have used a few of them in the past, so I bypassed those because I wanted to learn something new.  Based on my experience with the other applications, I did not foresee that the choices would be very complicated to learn or use.  The program that I selected to use did have a very good “ease of use” capability, and I am actually planning to use it to create some assessments in another class that I am working on.  So it automatically became a useful.

Within this unit, we are focusing on online testing and assessment opportunities, both synchronous (simultaneous usage) or asynchronous (accessible at different times). We had the following choices to evaluate and decide on an environment to produce a deliverable for this unit.  My evaluations of these environments are as follows:

          Survey monkey

o   I have used Survey Monkey in the past, it is fairly simple to use, the setup is quick and easy, and having the ability to create online quizzes and/or surveys can be useful as a student as well as an instructor.
·          Quipper.com

                     (quiz-based e-learning mobile app for iPhone and Android platforms)
o   As I reviewed what Quipper.com was about, it actually looks very interesting, but way more involved that what I am looking for at this point in the Unit.  It caught my attention enough for me to bookmark the site for future analysis.
·         Socrative

                       (Provides an easy and  user-friendly  student response system )
o   So I had never heard of this, however, some of my classmates are ahead of me in trying these environments out, and have already sent me requests to take the quizzes that they created using this program and I liked the ease of use they seemed to have.  Because it was so easy to create and manage the quizzes within this environment, I created my product for this assignment, as well as used it to create the assessments I needed to make for my final project in another class. 

·         Zoho Challenge

o   This program would not open, when I clicked the link, an error message popped up stating that it could not locate the internet or proxy server.  I am connected to the internet and am able to open the other applications, but not this one.  So I cannot provide any kind of evaluation.
·         Quizlet

o   As I opened this application, it actually looks very interesting, but way more involved that what I am looking for at this point in the Unit, again, I bookmarked it for future analysis.
·         ClassMarket

o   As I opened this application, it actually looks very interesting, but way more involved that what I am looking for at this point in the Unit, again, I bookmarked it for future analysis.
o   This application looks like it would be fun to create trivia quizzes for friends and family, and probably would be great in attracting and keeping student’s attention, I am just not sure how professional looking it would be.
·         PollEverywhere

o   I have used PollEverywhere in the past, and it is actually a very interesting program. I can see uses for it both in the classroom and in other areas of business.  Once you set up a poll, you can provide a link or code to people to use on a computer or their smartphone/tablets.  Once they take the poll, the program tracks the responses and provides a table with the results.  

Development of Technological Product
I have decided to use socrative.com due to how easy it was to prepare and manage quizzes within the environment.  I used to it create my product for this assignment, as well as used it to create the assessments I needed to make for my final project in another class.

  2. I like how easy Socrative is. I liked the layout of your quiz. I wasn't aware that you can see the amount of questions on the left side. It was interesting to see the option that you chose where we were not able to see the correct answer. This is very applicable to the education setting.

  3. I have used SurveyMonkey in the past with students and have allowed them to create assessments for teams of students. They found it to be engaging and fun.

  4. I liked the set up of your quiz because you were able to go back to other questions. I haven't seen that with Socrative quizzes before. Good job!
