Technology Development Environment
Analysis of Technology Development Environment Within this unit, we focused on digital audio publishing opportunities. We had the following choices to evaluate and decide on an environment to produce a deliverable for this unit. My evaluations of these environments are as follows:
- Poderator
http://www.poderator.com/ - When I opened the poderator.com site, of course I had to register and sign in, no problem there. The problem came once I was in the application itself, I could not find any instructions on how to use the site. I also not find any help on YouTube, so for now, I am moving on to the next option.
- PodBean
http://www.podbean.com/ - Podbean.com, in the end, was actually very easy to use. You can create an account by signing in through Facebook or by creating your own domain URL with an email account. After logging in, I had a difficult time figuring out how to actually record the podcast. So I continued checking out the other sites.
- I came back to this site after reviewing the other options because of the ease of use and the way the end product looked and could be shared once you uploaded an audio file. From what I can tell, all of the options required the recording of the audio file to be done as a separate component to actually creating a podcast.
- Podcast Generator
http://podcastgen.sourceforge.net/ - I have decided against using Podcast Generator due to the fact that I would have to download an additional application on my computer, and at this time, I am not looking to add more programs onto my hard drive.
- PodOmatic
https://www.podomatic.com/login - I have also decided against PodOMatic because from what I can see the only way to create a podcast with this program is to upload an audio file that you would have to create elsewhere, using audacity or some other audio file that you already have prepared.
- Blog Talk Radio
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ - This program seemed pretty interesting if you are looking to host a talk-show or have multiple people creating the podcast simultaneously. I did not sign up for this program because for now, this is not something that I am looking for.
Development of Technological Product
Again, for this unit, I had no prior experience with any of the possible choices. I did find quite a few of them to be very interesting, and as before, I am bookmarking a few of them for possible future use. I selected to use PodBean.com because it provided “live help” and guided me in what was needed in order to accomplish this mission. I also liked how the podcast looked when I shared the link, plus the additional embedding options for sharing.

Alice,
ReplyDeleteI like the way you chose to provide your audience with an analysis of each site. I also liked the clarity of your entire podcast! Way to go!
Although I tend to prefer PodOmatic, used in concert with Audacity, I like what you produced with PodBean. I was curious about your review note that you, "came back to this site after reviewing the other options because of the ease of use and..." Can I assume then that you were able to locate help resources online for PodBean, or did you just elect to "tough it out"? If you did locate help resources, it might be a nice touch to include those here. I found several on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed as though with all of the options, I was going to have to provide my audio file outside of the podcast environment, once I figured that out, PodBean was very easy to use, uploading the audio file was a simple "drag and drop", similar to YouTube. I created the audio file with my phone recorder and emailed it to myself as an MP3 file (which was one of the accepted formats).

You gave a really good analysis of the podcast websites. I also felt that the websites were a little difficult to use, and gave little direction on how to record and upload an audio file. I like that you were able to imbed your podcast in you blog. I didn't know that you could do that.
ReplyDeleteI really liked that feature from PodBean , you just have to copy and past the embed code in the HTML code within Blogger. PodBean also provided the option to allow it to create and post your podcast into several social media sites, including this one (Blogger). I chose not to use that feature because I wanted to include my podcast within this blog itself, not as a separate post.
DeleteAs always your work is amazing! Thanks for leaving me input and helping me out. The only thing I think would have made this smoother is explaining the need to have a primary audio editing software before digging into podcast platforms. I agre with you about BlogTalkRadio. This would be a great choice to produce live broadcasts and reach students or consumers in this manner. Thanks again for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI'm amazed by the progress of you and the applications you are utilizing within this cause. I listen to podcasts all the time, but I have never considered producing one myself. I'm sure your assessments will come in handy, when it comes to my kids and projects, this upcoming school year.
